My name is Johnny Schmidt and I moved to Mandeville in 1990, went to mandeville middle and junior high school, graduated from St Paul’s in 1998, and graduated from SLU in 2003 with a business management degree. I moved to Tampa after hurricane Katrina, but moved back to Mandeville in 2017. I’ve been a full time independent health and business coach with Optavia for over 6 years and I recently started a new business in Covington called Flo & Glo IV Wellness Lounge that offers IV hydration and vitamin infusion services, as well as Versa Spa spray tanning and medical aesthetics! When I’m not working, I love to go fishing, boating, spend time at the beach, play with my two dogs, and spend time with my friends and family! I love to travel, as well!
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
My father was the Regional Vice President for MetLife and worked for them for 30 years. He passed away in 2015, unfortunately. My mother was a teacher at Fountainbleu Junior High and retired a few years ago. She’s the best cook I know! My sister lives in Michigan with her husband and two kids and she runs two businesses.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I’ve been in sales as long as I can remember. Starting as a waiter through my college years, and then moving into the mortgage industry after graduating college. I eventually moved into medical sales while living in Tampa, but I left that behind to pursue my health coaching career. I’m still a health coach, but have decided to move into another part of health and wellness by starting an IV therapy wellness lounge. What I love most about these careers is that I get to positively impact other people’s health and wellbeing! It’s a true passion for me!

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
34 years
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Troy
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Don’t worry about things you can’t control! Focus on the things you can control, like your attitude, mindset and how you respond to things, especially when it’s not going your way.
Q: If you could choose anyone that is alive today and not a relative; with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?
Mel Gibson. I just think he’s an amazing actor, but an even better human being. I’d probably ask him to meet me at Pats Rest a While and get a table on the balcony.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
I love the small town feel, even though it’s grown, tremendously, since Katrina. It’s family oriented and safe, and plenty to do to keep entertained.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I see myself owning 5+ Flo & Glo locations, and living on the water in Florida! Maybe Pensacola or Perdido Key!
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I’m adopted! I don’t remember it, as I was adopted at birth.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Ireland! I traveled there a few years ago and thought it was amazing!
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My sister, Heidi!
Q: Finally, what 3 words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Family, friends and food!
